Participation in the SPRIND innovation competition

AUTHADA was a participant in the innovation competition organised by the Bundesagentur für Sprunginnovationen (SPRIND). AUTHADA developed a prototype for the EUDI wallet on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior and Home Affairs (BMI). With its decentralised approach to storing identity data, AUTHADA pursued the goal of offering users the greatest possible security. As a pioneer in the development of secure identification solutions, AUTHADA is proud to be an active part of this movement and to develop innovative solutions for the future of digital identity.

The project

According to the EU Regulation on Identification, Authentication and Trust Services (eIDAS), member states are obliged to offer all citizens an EU identity wallet (EUDI wallet) by 2026. In order to discuss what a possible EUDI wallet could look like, the Bundesagentur für Sprunginnovationen (SPRIND) launched an innovation competition in May 2024. During the selection process, the AUTHADA team impressed the jury with its ideas and was one of six companies selected to take part in the competition.

Five men stand on a stage for a panel discussion; four face the audience, one speaks into a microphone, while another, with his back to the camera, moderates. SPRIN-D banners are visible in the background.

Goals in the SPRIND innovation competition

AUTHADA focuses on the decentralised storage of identity data directly on the smartphone. Data from the wallet should be stored securely on the user’s mobile device and protected against unauthorised access by third parties.

Our goals

  • Research into and implementation of innovations in the area of EUDI wallets
  • Decentralised storage of identity data
  • Use of secure storage options such as secure elements or eUICCs (eSIM)
  • Major focus on usability and design
  • Implementation of the “self-sovereign identity management” approach
  • Creation of communication standards that enable the provision of identity data in different versions (authenticated channel + signed credentials)
  • Facilitation of access to the eIDAS infrastructure for relying parties
  • Reduction of complexity by providing wallet connectors for relying parties

What makes the EUDI wallet so special?

The EUDI wallet is not just a further step in digitalisation, it is a real game changer. It makes it possible to store personal data securely and use it in various areas of application across Europe. Whether at public authorities, in online banking, in e-commerce or when travelling – the wallet offers maximum control and data security for users.

Cross-border

Die Wallet wird in der gesamten EU anerkannt und ermöglicht sichere Identifikations- und Authentifizierungsprozesse in allen Mitgliedstaaten.

Self-sovereign management of your own data

Users can decide for themselves what information they want to share – and with whom.

Safety

All transactions are documented in the wallet and are visible to the user at all times. The wallet fulfils the highest security standards and is GDPR-compliant.

Interoperable

The wallet can be used for a wide range of applications on different platforms, from governmental procedures to online services and everyday transactions.
