QES in the circular economy – Dr. Ing. Wandrei, AUTHADA and InfoCert develop new tool

Signing documents already involves a lot of effort in the office: Documents travel back and forth between departments, have to be printed out and copied. If the parties involved are also in different locations and for example suppliers are involved, the process of signing becomes even more time-consuming and complicated. For a long time, this posed challenges for those involved in the circular economy. Thanks to the cooperation of Dr. Ing. Wandrei, AUTHADA and InfoCert, this process has been optimised and an important milestone in the digitalisation of the circular economy has been achieved for all parties involved.

[Darmstadt, 14. September 2022] Since 2010, according to the electronic waste records procedure (eANV), actors in the circular economy in Germany such as carriers and disposers have already been obliged to sign disposal records and consignment notes digitally and by means of a remote signature, the Qualified Electronic Signature (QES). Until now, however, this was only possible in a roundabout way – with card readers. A procedure that no longer reflected the actual processes and necessities in an up-to-date manner. The Berlin IT company Dr. Ing. Wandrei took on this problem and looked for partners with whom it could further develop and optimise a mobile solution for NSUITE for the electronic waste records procedure (eANV) and expand it to include a hardware-independent QES. The sticking point during the search was that most signature service providers only offered the possibility to sign Word or PDF documents via remote signature. “When we found partners in AUTHADA and InfoCert, with whose solution documents could be signed in the prescribed XML format, the enthusiasm was great,” says Jens Michalke, Senior Consultant – NSUITE Customer Support at Dr. Ing. Wandrei.

Much effort before the introduction of the new solution

Even if the implementation of a mobile eANV solution on a Windows-based mobile device was already a revolution in 2011, drivers had to carry signature cards and appropriately approved card readers – which had to meet at least security class 2. If they did not use them, they had no other option than to call the office to have an employee sign for a load that they had not seen before. In addition, the electronic verification procedure was only electronic in the communication between the parties involved – in the vehicle itself, accompanying documents often had to be carried in paper form.

Uncomplicated and fast with new technology

Thanks to the technology from AUTHADA and InfoCert implemented in NSUITE, the signature process in the circular economy is now faster and more streamlined. Drivers no longer have to carry signature cards and expensive hardware, go to the office or call an employee from the office. Instead, the signature can now be done on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets with the new NSUITE.mobile product. “When we present the new remote signature solution to companies in the circular economy and their employees, it is always met with enthusiasm. Above all, the simple and intuitive application is always praised. In addition to saving time, accompanying papers and hardware, this new procedure has also significantly reduced the risk of breakdowns,” says Birgit Wandrei, Team Lead – IT Project Management at Dr. Ing Wandrei.

Through the cooperation with Dr. Ing. Wandrei, the remote signature solution of AUTHADA and InfoCert is implemented for the first time in a tool specifically developed for the circular economy – NSUITE. “We are pleased that our solution is being used in so many areas and industries, making work easier for numerous people,” says Andreas Plies, Managing Director and co-founder of AUTHADA.
